Investigators say forensic evidence links a 25-year-old Cumming man to the strangulation and sexual assault of a Forsyth County woman.

The GBI has taken out warrants against Jorge Montiel, charging him with aggravated sodomy, burglary and murder in the Oct. 13 death of Maria Hernandez-Reyes. Hernandez-Reyes, a 34-year-old mother of two, was found dead in her Park Street home by her husband and a tenant, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators have not yet determined if Hernandez-Reyes knew Montiel, Capt. Frank Huggins with the Forsyth sheriff's office told the AJC.

Forensic evidence found at the scene linked the crime to the suspect, Forsyth Sheriff Ted Paxton said. The sheriff's office, Cumming police and the GBI collaborated in the investigation, he said.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Montiel is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 770-781-2200, Cumming police at 770-781-2000 or the GBI at 404-244-2600. Anonymous calls may be made to the Crime Stoppers line at 770-888-7308.
