A Peachtree City man accused of fondling himself in front of a 5-month-old baby remained in jail Saturday night.

Joseph Childress Smirniotis, 50, is charged with child molestation and public indecency, and is being held on $25,000 bond, according to Coweta County jail spokesperson.

Smirniotis was arrested Thursday after allegedly fondling himself at a Newnan bookstore in front of the baby, Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs told the Newnan Times-Herald.

The baby's mother screamed when she saw Smirniotis touching himself while standing over the baby, according to reports. The man fled the scene, but witnesses were able to get his tag number.

He was later arrested by the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
