Big changes are coming to the congested Ga. 400/Holcomb Bridge Road interchange in Roswell this week.

A city contractor will activate a new traffic signal controlling traffic coming up the northbound Ga. 400 off ramp and heading eastbound. Until now, vehicles reaching the top of the exit ramp had flowed freely onto Holcomb Bridge. The exit ramp will also operate only one lane until the contractor finishes building a second right-turn lane.

City officials said the improvements will cut down on the need for drivers to change lanes as they merge onto eastbound Holcomb Bridge and will also eliminate a “trap” lane approaching Old Alabama Road where motorists had been forced to move over to avoid left turn lanes.

The city also said lane shifts will occur on eastbound HBR for about four weeks as the contractor rebuilds the center median. Delays are expected.
