The first quarterly report of Peachtree City’s fiscal year notes that low fuel prices are helping the city’s bottom line.

Financial Services Director Paul Salvatore told the city councilrecently that the city stands to save thousands on real vs. budgeted fuel costs. The city budgeted for gas prices to average $3.50 per gallon, but the actual cost has been only $1.20 per gallon recently.

Combined with similar declines in diesel prices, Salvatore said the city could save about $252,000 by the end of the year.

Lower gas prices will also reduce the cost of asphalt needed for extensive paving projects, he added. Those figures weren’t readily available.
