Local community celebrates 100th birthday of veteran with 3 Purple Hearts

Members of the local Greek community came together Sunday to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of their beloved members.
George Demos has been a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Greek Festival, for decades.
He is a combat veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II.
Demos has three Purple Hearts, among many other distinctions.
Members of the cathedral call Demos an inspiration to their community, and said they are glad that they could share in his birthday celebration.
“I know in a world of never-ending local and global affairs this may seem insignificant to many, but Mr. George is an inspiration to our Greek community,” cathedral member Evangelos Hadjisimos said.
