A 43-year-old dump truck driver was killed early Tuesday when his truck was hit by a freight train at a DeKalb County rail crossing.

The wreck happened before 8 a.m. near the intersection of Constitution Road and Fleetwood Drive. The train pushed the dump truck about a half-mile down the track, ejecting the driver from the truck.

The DeKalb Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man Tuesday afternoon as Norman Devoe Jr. of Lithonia.

DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson told Channel 2 Action News that the crossing in Tuesday’s collision has a stop sign, but no crossing arms.

Jackson said fire crews also contained a fuel spill from the truck.

It was the second fatal train-vehicle crash in three days in metro Atlanta. On Sunday, two children died when the minivan they were riding in was hit by a train in Henry County.
