Labor Day weekend will not include any less labor for Fayette County employees.

The Board of Commissioners deadlocked 2-2 last Thursday on a vote to give department heads the discretion to let some employees leave after 1 p.m. on Friday.

County Manager Steve Rapson said he already has the authority to permit the “soft benefit” for the holiday weekend, but preferred the commission vote on it. Commissioners Charles Oddo and David Barlow supported the extra leave as a reward for staff, but Steve Brown and Randy Ognio objected, citing concerns about consistency and “fiduciary responsibility” to taxpayers.
