Lawrenceville has canceled its Hometown Christmas Parade due to forecasted rain, the city announced Wednesday.
The parade had been scheduled for Friday evening. Rain is expected to fall in metro Atlanta for most of the weekend, and there’s a chance of thunderstorms Friday. The city said it made the decision to cancel “with priorities for safety and quality in mind for all participants, patrons and city employees.”

The parade will not be re-scheduled, as nearly 70 percent of participants could not make another date before Christmas. More than 60 organizations were on board to participate in the parade, and nearly 70 city employees and multiple volunteers had a role in set-up, tear-down or parade operations.
This is the second consecutive weekend that a Christmas parade has been canceled due to weather in Gwinnett County. The Lilburn Christmas Parade had been initially planned for Dec. 1, then re-scheduled for Dec. 8 before it was finally rained out.
