The Lawrenceville City Council voted recently to approve a special use permit to allow unscreened outdoor storage for a business on 3.09-acres at 297 Industrial Park Drive. This would only allow storage at the rear of the long, rectangular building on the south side of Industrial Park Drive, extending to the CSX rail right-of-way. The property contains a multi-tenant industrial building, parking areas and a driveway extending the depth of the parcel.
The proposed unscreened outdoor storage area will be located to the rear of the building, well below the grade of the adjacent railroad tracks, and not visible from Industrial Park Drive. Neighboring properties are also in industrial use and across the rail line is an undeveloped, wooded portion of Rhodes Jordan Park.
Given the proposed outdoor storage area would be a long distance from the road, situated behind the building and only visible from the rail right-of-way, the request for unscreened storage was found to be compatible with city plan policies.
