With hurricane damage sweeping across the South and Caribbean, many individuals and groups are finding ways to give back to the disaster-torn areas.
Morris, Manning & Martin, the Buckhead-based law firm, raised over $4,000 and made 1,132 toiletry kits to benefit hurricane victims through the American Red Cross.
“As a firm we like to show our support for those less fortunate whether it be poverty, education, health, natural disasters, etc. I think it is only human to want to help those in need. When we see people struck by tragedy and we have a way to help, we would like to be there,” said Christina Graham, partner at Morris, Manning & Martin and chair of the firm’s MMMPact corporate social responsibility program.
The firm hosted a jeans Friday on Sept. 1 and Sept. 8 to raise funds and encouraged staff to donate travel sized toiletry items, which they packed into relief kits.
Giving back is a part of the company’s culture.Through its MMMPact program, the firm is heavily involved in social and community outreach. It has established philanthropy, pro bono and diversity efforts into the culture of MMM to help those in need. Last year alone, the law firm sponsored and/or volunteered with more than 45 charitable organizations. This year, in addition to hurricane relief efforts, MMM has partnered with Ahimsa House, a nonprofit that saves pets and people from domestic abuse.
With hurricane relief being a slow process, people can still donate travel-sized items that will allow the firm to have another packing day. The firm has set up an Amazon Wish List for toiletry needs or items can be dropped off at the firm’s Buckhead location.
“We feel that it is our social responsibility to give back to the communities that we are a part of,” said Graham. “I hope that our employees see the impact we are making as a firm in the community and are proud of what we do.”
