Originally scheduled to open last year but delayed by weather and trail alignment issues, the latest phase of the Big Creek Greenway in Forsyth County is now open to walkers, joggers, bikers and skaters.

Phase 4 of the multi-use trail is a 2.8-mile extension that brings the path's total length in Forsyth to about 9.6 miles (a separate trail segment runs in North Fulton County). The newest section starts at the Bethelview Road trailhead and ends at Johnson Road.

Bridge widening work on Bethelview causes the trail to narrow from 12 to 8 feet, with an overhead clearance of 9 to 10 feet, Forsyth officials say. This temporary segment is expected to remain for about two years, the duration of the bridge construction.

Greenway hours are 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. March through October, and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. November through February.
