A Kennesaw State University student died last week after a 911 call was placed from outside a campus dining hall.

Tyler Cody Davis, of Marietta, died Thursday, John Bankhead, spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, told the AJC. The GBI conducted an autopsy Friday on Davis, but the results have not yet been released, Bankhead said. Tests are being conducted to determine if Davis died from an allergic reaction.

If Davis died from an allergic reaction to something he ate, he would be the second metro Atlanta student to die in the past five days from a severe allergic reaction, also called anaphylaxis. Jharell Dillard, an 11th grader at Central Gwinnett High School, died Wednesday after eating a cookie containing peanuts.

The GBI is investigating the death because it occurred on state property, a spokeswoman for the Cobb County Medical Examiner told the AJC.

"Davis ate at The Commons – Student Culinary Center on Thursday afternoon, and subsequently departed the facility," the university said in a statement released Monday afternoon. "The student later returned to The Commons in distress, and sought assistance in summoning emergency personnel."

Davis died of an allergic reaction, according to a note posted on the Sprayberry High School soccer website. Davis, a 2009 graduate of Sprayberry High School, was in his third year of studies at KSU. He played soccer in high school and planned to study health and exercise science.

Family members gathered at a relative's home in Cobb County declined comment when contacted Monday.

A 911 call was placed from 1000 Chastain Road shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Dan Dupree with the Cobb fire department told the AJC. Davis was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the university said.

"Davis is being fondly remembered by his friends and associates on campus," the university said. "Meanwhile, Kennesaw State officials have communicated directly with the students, faculty and staff who shared personal associations with Davis, and offered them the opportunity to participate in grief counseling."

A memorial service is planned for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Marietta.
