Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews and the city council held a special called meeting Wednesday to promote Jeff Drobney from assistant city manager to city manager, abandoning its national search.
Drobney has been performing the duties of city manager since February when the city council voted not to renew the contract of Steve Kennedy as city manager.
The annual salary for Drobney will be $130,000.
During his 15 years with the city, he has served as executive director of the Southern Museum and agency director for Recreation and Culture for 10 years before his appointment as assistant city manager.
A graduate this year of the Leadership Cobb program, Drobney also has been president of the Kennesaw Business Association and a past board member for Cobb Travel and Tourism.
