A Fulton County jury took just minutes to find a 25-year-old Atlanta man guilty of murder.
After the short deliberation Thursday, Antonio Shaw was convicted in the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Shomari Greeir, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday. He also was found guilty of shooting two other people who survived the December 2011 incident.
Authorities said a fight between Shaw’s girlfriend and another woman sparked the deadly shooting in the parking lot of a Parkway Drive apartment complex in Atlanta.
According to prosecutors, Shaw pointed a gun at the woman fighting with his girlfriend, then Greeir intervened and tried to defuse the situation. Instead of putting his weapon away, Shaw shot Greeir four times and shot the woman multiple times, but she was able to drive herself to the hospital. Shaw’s girlfriend was shot twice, though that appeared accidental, officials said. Both women survived, while Greeir died at the hospital.
Shaw confessed and showed off his weapon to a group of people at a friend’s home the night of the shootings, authorities said. He was arrested days later.
Shaw was found guilty of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.
A date has not yet been set for Shaw’s sentencing. The state is seeking life without parole.
