A state administrative judge said Monday he would rule this week on whether an Atlanta day care should be closed for 21 days under an emergency order because one of its workers left a child unattended in a van for two hours this month.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning issued an emergency closure order for A New Beginning Learning Center II in the wake of the June 8 arrest of van driver Shavonda Dailey, who was released from jail on a $15,000 bond June 10.
The emergency closure would last 21 days and during that time the agency would determine whether to close the center permanently, said agency spokesman Reg Griffin.
Police said Dailey, who faces misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and cruelty to children, left a 2-year-old boy locked inside a van outside the day care on Sylvan Road.
The boy, who did not sustain any injuries during the incident, was reported missing by his mother.
