The Johns Creek City Council has approved a measure barring sales of vaping products to people under the age of 18.
Purchasers of electronic cigarettes and related vaping products will be subject to “carding” – they’ll have to show proof, such as a driver’s license, that they’re 18 or over. Underage persons cannot possess vaping products, either; exceptions are made for medical or religious purposes, and for vaping at home when a parent or guardian is present.
The council also voted to prohibit the sale, manufacture and distribution of synthetic cannabinoids that mimic the effects of marijuana; synthetic cathinones (“bath salts”), and synthetic opiates.
Offenders are subject to fines of up to $1,000 or a jail term of up to 60 days, or both, according to the ordinance; and an offending business, the revocation of its occupational tax certificate.
Council members agreed that staff should move forward with drafting a text amendment addressing electronic cigarettes and vape shop regulations, according to a staff summary of the council meeting.
