The Johns Creek City Council took steps forward on two significant infrastructure improvement projects Monday night.

The council approved a contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation under which the city will purchase rights-of-way and easements for the widening of Ga. 120/Kimball Bridge Road from State Bridge to Jones Bridge roads. Public Works Director Tom Black said the city could spend as much as $4.4 million for the buyouts, but that GDOT will reimburse the city 100 percent.

Black said it’s hoped the project will be under construction in one year’s time.

Council members also finalized the purchase of four acres of land in the 48 hundred block of Morton Road for use as a neighborhood pocket park. The city is paying $640,000 for the two tracts.
