The Johns Creek City Council has approved a staff request to reallocate $247,900 to begin engineering design work for improvements in the Barnwell Road Corridor at the Jones Bridge Road curve, Barnwell Elementary School and Rivermont Parkway.

The city seeks to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety where Barnwell, a two-lane road, becomes Jones Bridge at a sharp curve just north of the school; while a left-turn lane is envisioned at the school, and a roundabout, at Rivermont, according to a staff report to the council.

“Staff recommends advancing the engineering through work orders with DPE Inc.” for the Jones Bridge curve and Barnwell Elementary turn lane, “and a council-approved task order with Kimley-Horn” for the Barnwell-Rivermont roundabout, staff said, citing the city’s two on-call engineering consultants. These tasks would total $214,900.

“The remaining $33,000 will be used for specialty engineering studies as needed on the projects (geotechnical, subsurface utility engineering, etc.),” staff said.
