To make its City DataHub more accessible “and leverage the use of technology,” Johns Creek has announced that it’s launched its own Amazon Alexa “skill” and says it’s the first city in the world to use open data with the digital assistant.

Alexa can access the Johns Creek website and DataHub, officials said; the latter portal holds such information as code compliance information, building permits, and fire and police data.

Alexa also can answer inquiries about available jobs and the city event and meetings calendar, officials said. Ask Alexa about the next City Council meeting, for example, and the device will reply with the meeting date, time and location.

“The new Johns Creek Alexa skill … only provides information and does not collect any,” according to a city announcement.
