Johns Creek officials seeking to improve emergency communications on the city’s northeast side are considering adding a 195-foot communications tower at 6425 Old Atlanta Road in nearby Forsyth County.
The city said this ties in with their spending about $17 million for communications technology upgrades. Officials have replaced equipment at the current public safety tower at Jones Bridge and Morton roads, but said gaps in coverage and lack of penetration in some buildings remain a problem. In 2014, the city sought to erect one tower near State Bridge and Medlock Bridge roads to serve the entire community, but the plan fell through.
No date has been set, but city officials hope an intergovernmental agreement can soon be inked with Forsyth County allowing the project to go forward.
