Johns Creek is in complete birthday mode, and a big bash is in the works to celebrate its 10 years of existence.
Fireworks will explode and fanfares will blare at the city's anniversary celebration on Nov. 5. Residents can expect to jam to live musical performances by the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra and School of Rock Johns Creek group. A battle of the bands is scheduled between Johns Creek and Centennial High schools. There will also be fun and inflatables for the children.
Hungry event-goers have no need to fret. There will be plenty of food truck options to go around — Cousins Maine Lobster, A Haute Cookie, and Big C's Chicago Kitchen, just to name a few. Expect a special treat from Heavenly Dolce if you're one of the first 500 people to their food truck.
Former Channel 11 WXIA (NBC) anchorwoman Karen Greer will host the evening festivities. Also expect a guest appearance by Ms. Georgia 2016, Patricia Ford.
Nov. 7, 2006 marks 10 years since Johns Creek residents first elected an actual mayor and city council. A month later, Johns Creek was officially incorporated, an act city leaders say they still consider a major turning point for the north Fulton region.
"We began with the desire for more local control and are now recognized both regionally and nationally as one the best places to raise a family, one of the safest cities in the country, and just an all-around fantastic place to live and work," said Mayor Mike Bodker, who was first elected in November 2006.
Johns Creek officials have shared with the public a series of YouTube vignettes about the city's birth and growth over the last decade.
The evening celebration runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Get more details on the event here, including parking and the sponsors involved.
