Trying on firefighting gear is one of the experiences offered to residents at the Johns Creek Citizens Fire Academy. The next academy meets for 10 sessions beginning Feb. 5. CITY OF JOHNS CREEK

Johns Creek is taking applications for its next Citizens Fire Academy, where residents can get a detailed look at the workings of the Fire Department.

The academy meets for 10 classes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Feb. 5, 19, 26, March 2, 12, 23, 26, and April 13 and 26. Classes will be held at Station 62, 10925 Rogers Circle, unless otherwise stated.

The academy is open to Johns Creek residents or those who work in Johns Creek, ages 18 and older, who successfully pass the application process and a criminal history check, officials said. There will be instruction on equipment and fire prevention; demonstrations of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and investigation techniques, and practical fire ground training and emergency medical exercises.
