Jeannette Cathy, the wife of Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, has died.
The fast-food chain confirmed that Cathy died Wednesday night. She was 92.
Born Jeannette McNeil in 1922, Cathy grew up in Atlanta, where she met her childhood sweetheart Truett Cathy when she was 8 years old while attending West End Baptist Church. The two married in 1948 and remained together 65 years until Truett Cathy's death in September.
Jeannette Cathy is survived by her sons Dan Truett Cathy and Donald “Bubba” Cathy, her daughter Trudy Cathy White, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
“Our mother has always been the spiritual nucleus and encourager of our family,” said eldest son Dan Cathy, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Chick-fil-A Inc., in a statement on the company’s website. “I can’t remember a day when she was not in full support of Dad in his work and vision for the Chick-fil-A business.”
Chick-fil-A was founded in 1967 and the family-owned chain has its headquarters in Atlanta.
According to the company’s website, Chick-fil-A has more than 1,900 restaurants in 42 states and Washington, D.C., and produced sales of nearly $6 billion in 2014.
