An enhanced lawn seating area is planned for the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a contract on Aug. 28 with Integrated Construction and Nobility, Inc. for $497,577 under the 2016 PARKS Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) Program.

No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with this project.

“It is expected that these enhancements will increase ticket sales for the venue,” PARKS Director Jimmy Gisi said to County Manager Rob Hosack in an Aug. 28 memo.

These improvements will include repairs and upgrades at the amphitheater at the Mable House Complex, 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton.

The amphitheater is a mid-sized outdoor concert venue with covered seating, hosting patrons for music, dance and theatrical performances.

Additional capacity is available on a sloped lawn behind the main covered seating area, but Gisi said this area is not ideal due to the steepness of the slope.

Presently, patrons are not allowed to bring chairs; and there is no provision for ADA access to the sloped area.

This project will involve the creation of a series of flat terraces, extending up the hill, to be separated by short retaining walls and connected by stairways with handrails.

The lowest terrace will be ADA accessible.

The surface of each terrace will be finished with synthetic turf, requiring little maintenance.

Each side will have several larger, separate areas that will be available for rental by groups or sponsors.

Patrons will be able to bring their chairs without obstructing the view of those behind them.
