Cooper Harris was 22 months old when he died, locked inside a sweltering SUV on a summer day. Twenty-two months after that tragedy, his father goes on trial today for murder in Cooper's death.

Cobb County Superior Court has summoned 550 people to serve as potential jurors in the case. So many of them have already asked to be excused from service that the first day of the trial is expected to be taken up with the judge hearing those requests.

The selection of the jury is expected to begin Tuesday. It is impossible to say how long that selection process will take -- it is expected to be weeks rather than days -- and indeed the court may determine at length that it can't find 12 impartial jurors to hear the case.

The case has drawn worldwide attention, and international media are expected to be on hand today in Marietta, in addition to national and regional media from the U.S.
