The final building blocks have been put in place for the Holly Springs Main Street Program to get up and running, moving from start-up phase to accreditation.

The City Council Thursday night approved an agreement with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs outlining the downtown improvement program’s operating parameters. City officials also learned that Holly Springs has been nominated for the national Main Street Program. City Manager Rob Logan said necessary confirmation is expected.

Under the program, downtown businesses will be able to apply for façade grants for their buildings and the city will get design and other technical assistance for development, Logan said.

The council also approved a 50-year deal to lease just over two acres of land to Cherokee County for construction of a replacement for county fire station No. 3 near the north entrance of the Harmony on the Lakes development, replacing a nearby older facility.
