Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County will hold a groundbreaking at 4:15 p.m. Monday for a Victorian period garden near Stately Oaks, an antebellum home the historical society operates in Jonesboro.

The garden will be named after Flora Blalock, a former Jonesboro High principal who donated the garden property for the creation of the Jonesboro Recreation Center. Later the county government took ownership. The historical society has a 20-year lease on the property.

The garden property is on Jodeco Road near Stately Oaks, Battlefield Park and Suder Elementary School. For information, contact the historical society’s at 770-473-0197.
