Anyone who plans to spend Saturday afternoon outdoors should be prepared for a double whammy.

Channel 2 Action News is forecasting that it will be the hottest day of the year, and a code orange smog alert is also expected, meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“Air quality will be rather poor,” Monahan said. The alert means that people who are very young, very old, or who have respiratory issues may experience some unhealthy effects.

Also, a high temperature of about 93 degrees is forecast, Monahan said.

Sunday also is expected to be dry and hot, with a chance of rain about 20 percent.
