A local nonprofit organization seeking to create an aquatic center in Henry County has reached an agreement with the county government to build the facility on county-owned land. The Board of Commissioners voted May 5 to approve a deal to lease 20 acres on Henry Parkway or 50 years to the county’s development authority, which will then sublease the land to the Kensley Grace Aquatic Center Foundation for an initial term of 30 years.
The foundation cannot begin construction until 80 percent of the necessary funds have been raised, which officials said should be accomplished within about three years. No taxpayer funds or assets are being contributed to this project aside from the use of the land, and the county will own the facility at the end of the lease.
