The Henry County Board of Education is considering a controversial proposal to convert Smith-Barnes Elementary school in Stockbridge into an alternative school that would house up to 400 6th graders to 12th graders. The first of two public hearings on the issue will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Henry County Board of Education Central Office, 33 N. Zack Hinton Parkway in McDonough. The second hearing will be Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at Smith-Barnes Elementary, 147 Tye St. in Stockbridge.
