Henry County's library system has announced plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the nation's historic moon landing with costumes, music and food later this month.

The agency joins a growing number of organizations across the metro area that plan to acknowledge the historic moment, including museumscities and NASA itself.

Visitors to Henry's Cochran Public Library on July 18 can celebrate the 1969 event by watching related videos, eating snacks and naming songs from that year.

The event takes place from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and participants are encouraged to wear clothing from the period. For information, call 678-432-5353, option 7.

Those who miss the Cochran celebration can head over to the Fortson Public Library on July 19. That library is having an all-day celebration that will include space-themed crafts, a photo booth and 60's-era costume contest. The facility also will screen a short film of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. For information, call 678-432-5353, option 5.

Both events are free.
