A 16-year-old Henry County boy was killed Saturday when he was shot in the head by another teen, police said. Two other teens are now in custody while investigators try to determine what happened.

The victim, Brian Comer, was with two other teens at a Locust Grove home at the time of the shooting, Sgt. Mike Ireland with Henry County police said. Comer and another teen had been staying in the home for about a week without permission, police said. The third teen was visiting the other two at the home Saturday night.

"The person who owned the home is out of town and had been for a while," Ireland told the AJC.

The shooting was initially reported as being self-inflicted, but investigators determined that was not the case, Ireland said. The surviving teens, whose names have not been released, told police they had been playing with the gun and pointing it at each other all week, but did not believe it was loaded.

"Our indication right now is that the shotgun was accidentally discharged," Ireland said.

Two teens are being held at a youth detention center while the investigation continues, police said. They each have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, burglary and pointing a gun at another person.

A Facebook group was created to honor Comer, a student at Ola High School in McDonough.
