A committee has been formed to prepare for a future referendum on an extension of Henry County’s SPLOST and its first meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, July 23 in Conference Room B of the county administration building, 140 Henry Parkway in McDonough. It is open to the public.

The primary task of the committee will be to fashion a project list for approval by the Board of Commissioners in advance of a November 2019 referendum. A fixed project list must be in place and included as part of the referendum itself before it can be placed on the ballot. Committee members are appointed by each county commissioners as well as each of the county’s four cities. The meeting locations will change so that citizens in all areas of the county have easier access.

The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider the SPLOST project list in the spring and adopt the referendum language May 7, 2019.
