The Henry County School System was recently notified by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning of approval to begin offering a limited number of general education pre-K classes for the 2016-2017 school year.

Initially there will be one class each at Fairview Elementary, Oakland Elementary and Wesley Lakes Elementary. Each class will be capped at 22 students. Preference will be given to students living in the respective school zones, with selection made by lottery if there are more requests than spaces available.

Families living outside of those school zones can still apply for a spot in one of the classes but will only be considered if there are not enough registrations from families living within the school zone. The school system will also provide transportation for students accepted into one of the classes so long as they reside in the school zone.

This is the first time Henry County Schools has offered a general education, full-day pre-k program. The deadline to be considered for spaces in one of the three classes is noon July 8.
