After a lengthy discussion period, the Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its Mar. 3 regular meeting to table some proposed amendments to its public safety ordinances.

The bulk of the concerns were with the suggested changes to the county’s fire alarm ordinance and sprinkler ordinance. The need for revisions was motivated by the county’s growth in recent years as well as technological safety advances. Most of the fire safety provisions in the ordinance date back to 1992 or earlier, according to officials, with some sections even referencing volunteer firefighters which the country utilized in the past.

County staff was directed to bring the issue back as soon as possible, probably at the next board meeting.
