A pair of significant property acquisitions regarding public safety in the northern end of the county were addressed by the Henry County Board of Commissioners at its Oct. 2 regular meeting.

One is a 13-acre tract with access to Fairview and Panola roads surrounding the McDonald’s restaurant and across the street from the Kroger shopping center. Documents from the county assessor’s office show the total value of the site to be $833,500. The purchase agreement lists the sale price at $667,000.

The other is a 6.46-acre tract on the same side of Panola Road, directly across from Kroger and adjacent to the larger tract. Its assessed value is listed at $665,500 and the sale price on the purchase agreement is $333,000.

Officials said that these tracts are for the future construction of a new police station and a new fire station which will be funded in the next SPLOST should it be approved by voters.
