High school students will be working under supervision in county facilities during the school year under an agreement approved Sept. 4 by the Henry County Board of Commissioners.

The official name of the Board of Education program is Community-Based Vocational Instruction, and the county is providing a venue for some students to acquire job skills at no cost to the county’s budget. County purchasing director Rod Gray said that, while there is no cost to the county, potential liability issues make it prudent for the commissioners to be on board with the program. Students will be supervised at all times by Board of Education employees, and will “gain experience in production, proper safety techniques and appropriate work behavior,” officials said.

This program has operated for several years in conjunction with the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department.
