State officials are ready to move forward with construction at the McDonough site of Southern Crescent Technical College.
The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 18 to accept conveyance of an easement for the property. The county is contributing $5 million of the nearly $26 million cost of the facility through its SPLOST program. That agreement requires some county interest in the property.
The county attorney said that the state of Georgia must own the site to be legally allowed to fund its share through general obligation bonds. Both parties agreed that this arrangement would satisfy the legal requirements to move forward. The college hopes to have students in classrooms at the facility by January 2018.
