A TGI Friday’s in Gwinnett County had to evacuate 100 customers and staff when a fire broke out Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to the restaurant on Pleasant Hill Road shortly before 8:30 p.m., after someone found smoke in the women’s restroom and called 911. First responders found a fire burning on an exterior wall near two light fixtures, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

The fire did not enter the restaurant and damage was restricted to the exterior wall. Staff and diners were evacuated when the fire was discovered, and the Duluth restaurant remained closed for the rest of the night.

The restaurant was open and operating normally Monday morning. There is still a lingering smell of smoke, but management is working to eliminate it, a hostess said.
