A Gwinnett County teenager was killed Sunday night when she pulled out in front of another vehicle in a neighborhood near Grayson, police said.
Brittany Sailors, 16, was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante when she attempted to make a left turn from Graystone Parkway onto Lakeview Road around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, according to a Gwinnett County police press release.
The Mitsubishi was struck by a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville that was westbound on Lakeview Road.
Neither Sailors nor her passenger, 16-year-old Lacey Gowens, was wearing a seat belt, according to police.
Sailors died at the scene, and Gowens was hospitalized with injuries that police said were not life-threatening.
Police later charged the driver of the Pontiac, Mutajah Paasewe, 23, of Grayson, with driving under the influence.
Paasewe and his passenger, 19-year-old Dario Abreau of Norcross, were also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Josh Kennedy, who lives near the crash scene, told Channel 2 Action News that he told his parents to call 911, then ran to help the teens, who were trapped in the wreckage.
"Me and another guy broke off two back doors to try to get them out," Kennedy said.
"What I saw, I hope no parent ever has to go through," Kennedy's father, Mike Kennedy, said. "It was traumatizing."
