A Gwinnett County restaurant specializing in Southern food failed its recent health inspection, with “cross-contamination” involving several raw meats among the reported violations.

Southern Cooking — located at 3030 Amwiler Road in Doraville, not far from the DeKalb County line — received a 61/U on the Wednesday afternoon inspection.

According to the inspection report, raw beef, chicken and fish were being improperly stored together in the restaurant’s freezer. Officials also noted “debris caked between [the] blade and handle” of a peeling utensil and “food accumulation” in the microwave.

Cooked chicken and fish were being held at improper temperatures, the report said, and “employee medicine and eyeglasses” were being stored with food. The restaurant was also cited because “self-service” lemons were not protected by a sneeze guard.

A woman who answered the phone at the restaurant hung up when asked for comment Friday morning.

A follow-up inspection will be completed within 10 days of Wednesday’s failing evaluation.
