Gwinnett County wants vendors to know it means business.

The county will hold its fourth annual supplier symposium from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville.

Attendees will meet buyers and contracting officers from the county's purchasing division and other metro Atlanta agencies to take advantage of networking opportunities and help them create relationships, learn county purchasing processes and obtain information on current and upcoming projects. There will also be presentations and discussions to help acquaint suppliers with the county’s procurement procedures.

The focus of the symposium is to help suppliers more knowledgeable about the county’s procurement procedures, which will increase competition and encourage more suppliers to do business with Gwinnett County, according to purchasing director Roslyn Forstot.

“Our commitment to the taxpayers of Gwinnett is to spend their money wisely, and we can do that when we bring more businesses to the negotiating table,” said County Commission Chairman Charles Bannister.

Current projects open for bidding are available online at www.gwinnettcounty.com under the purchasing link along with explanations of bidding procedures.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
