Gwinnett has released a preliminary master plan for the 227-acre Simpsonwood Park. The new park is part of Gwinnett’s Parks and Recreation Department and will be managed and operated by the county.
The committee approved the design with a nature play space and two overlooks along with a request for conservation easement. Also approved were GDOT safety ingress and egress plans for safety. Highlights also include impervious surfaces reduced 5 percent and public vehicle access into the park will not go beyond the Chapel. Improvements totaling $7.1 million will be funded by SPLOST.
Estimated costs include $1,347,509 for entrance drives, $345,549 for restroom entry parking, $57,335 for the main lawn/parking area and $118,580 for the camping area.
In addition, the plan includes $517,114 for the chapel/event area, $63,317 for the meadowland area, $2,521,417 for two river overlooks, nature trail, tree protection, and other items for the trail system, $1,644,098 for a learning playground/pavilion, and $488,414 for miscellaneous.
An open forum meeting will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30 in the Simpsonwood United Methodist Church Gymnasium, 4500 Jones Bridge Circle in Peachtree Corners. The final master plan will be presented Aug. 4 to the committee.
