Jaime De La Vega-Lopez has been convicted of raping and molesting a girl for two years, starting when she was 4 years old, the Gwinnett County District Attorney announced.
De La Vega-Lopez was convicted of rape, aggravated child molestation and child molestation after a four-day trial. Sentencing will occur at a later date. The minimum sentence he faces is 25 years without parole. The maximum sentence is two consecutive life sentences plus 40 years imprisonment.
The abuse started when the victim was 4 years old and continued through the age of 6. De La Vega-Lopez would abuse the victim when she was left at his home in Gwinnett County. The victim is an extended family member of De La Vega-Lopez. The victim told her parents about the abuse at age 7, in 2014.

She and her mother were watching TV in February 2014 when the victim asked her mother what the term “making love” meant. When her mother explained, the victim “became upset and said ‘Mommy, help me,’” and proceeded to tell her mother about the abuse by De La Vega-Lopez, the district attorney’s office said.
The now 10-year-old victim testified through tears at the trial, explaining she didn’t say anything about the abuse initially because she was afraid of De La Vega-Lopez, who had told her not to tell anyone, the district attorney’s office said.
