A Gwinnett County comfort food restaurant failed its recent health inspection, with officials noting black debris in the ice machine, among other violations.

Sweet Baby Jane's Home Cooking, located at 520 West Pike St. in Lawrenceville, received a 59/U on its Thursday afternoon evaluation.

According to the inspection report, the restaurant was cited for having raw fish and pork stored directly over ready-to-eat food. The "concentration of the chlorine sanitizer used in the mechanical dishwasher" was also "inadequate," officials said.

In addition, "an employee was observed picking up a dropped lid off the ground," the report said. "He then proceeded to cut cabbage without changing gloves or washing his hands. Another employee touched a trash can and then proceeded to handle foods in the reach-in cooler."

Black debris was also "built up" in the ice machine, officials said.

A message left for the restaurant's manager was not immediately returned Friday.

A follow-up inspection will be performed by June 24, the report said.
