A Gwinnett County man remained in jail on felony murder charges Friday after investigators determined that his 3-month-old baby’s death earlier this week was likely caused by him shaking her, police said.
Reuben Valrie, 28, of Lawrenceville, called 911 Wednesday to report that his daughter, Aliyana Valrie, had stopped breathing, according to Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith.
Aliyana was taken by ambulance from the family’s home on Sweetwater Road to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
“The Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy and discovered significant trauma on Aliyana’s body,” Smith said in an e-mail. “Detectives developed probable cause to believe that Reuben Valrie had caused Aliyana’s death by shaking her.”
