Gwinnett crime roundup: Teen accused of leaving child at Sugarloaf Mills
The Gwinnett crime roundup is a regular look at crime of note in the county. Information is gleaned from arrest warrants, police incident reports and jail records. It consists of allegations only.
Mall desertion and child molestation
On March 4, an 18-year-old Sugar Hill man was accused of picking a 14-year-old boy up at school and leaving him at Duluth’s Sugarloaf Mills mall.
“Said 14-year-old male victim has a diminished mental capacity and was left at the mall with no means of getting back to school,” an arrest warrant said. “Said victim had to ask and rely on strangers to bring him back to school.”
While the 14-year-old was at the mall, the 18-year-old was allegedly elsewhere with an underage female. He was charged with reckless conduct and child molestation.
‘Repulsive’ shoplifting
On March 6, a 50-year-old Tucker woman was arrested after allegedly stealing $26.88 worth of “food, water and clothes” from the Walmart on Jimmy Carter Boulevard. The loss prevention officer who reported the crime was deeply offended.
“As (the suspect) was coming to concluding her purchases, she began to skip (scanning) items and blatantly bag clothing items into her shopping bag with no intent of paying,” the officer wrote. “After these repulsive acts, she vaulted through the grocery doors.”
A drunk, officer-impersonating house shooter
On March 6, a 30-year-old Lawrenceville man was arrested on various charges after allegedly – and drunkenly – shooting into a home on Amberly Glen Drive in Dacula. Warrants accuse him of firing a Glock 42 .380 into the air before shooting into the home, which was occupied, at least twice.
The man also described himself “as a peace officer or other public officer,” warrants said.
It all happened between 10 and 11 a.m.
‘Severe bleeding of the brain’
On March 5, a 61-year-old Snellville man was arrested on charges including DUI-less safe, hit and run and serious injury by motor vehicle.
According to warrants, a passenger in the man’s car – who had the same last name – was trying to exit the vehicle when he “abruptly changed lanes while the door was open,” throwing the passenger from the car. The passenger hit his head on the ground and a mailbox, “causing severe bleeding of the brain.”
The man drove off.
