One of six candidates for chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has withdrawn from the race.

Timothy Swiney of Lawrenceville announced this week he will not run for the office, despite filing to run earlier this month. He cited family obligations that require his attention, including adopting two children.

Swiney’s announcement leaves five candidates commission chairman: Charlotte Nash of Dacula, Larry Gause of Tucker, Robert Clark of Lawrenceville, Gerald Duane Kissel of Snellville and Will Costa of Lilburn.

Gwinnett County will hold a special election to fill the post March 15.
