Gwinnett County broke ground on a new police precinct and 911 center Tuesday.

The precinct, on Ozora Road in Loganville, will be the police department’s sixth. Dubbed the Bay Creek Police Precinct, it will serve “one of the fastest-growing areas in Gwinnett County,” according to a press release. The new precinct is intended to help reduce response times for emergency calls and provide a larger police presence in the southeastern area of the county that includes Loganville and Grayson.

The facility will also house an alternate 911 center. This space will allow the county’s 911 dispatchers to ensure “reliable communication” with police officers during events like severe weather during which transmissions could be compromised, according to the release.

The Gwinnett County Police Department currently has precincts in Buford, Duluth, Norcross, Lilburn and Dacula, as well as its headquarters in Lawrenceville.
