Gwinnett commissioners on Oct. 20 agreed to accept Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant funding for the Treatment Court Programs. Over a three year period, the funding represent $974,924, with $971,115 designated for View Point Health and $3,809 designated for the Administrative Office of Courts.

The county accepted the first Drug Court participant in Jan. 2005 and currently has grown to over 119 participants, 178 graduates and two court divisions. In addition the county added a Mental Health Court in 2013 and Veterans’ Court in 2015. To keep up with demand and continue to achieve current and future goals, additional funding is needed. The grant is 100 percent funded through SAMHSA with no match required.
